The Moto G Power, previously known as the Moto G Turbo, has just been announced by Motorola today, where it will be available to purchase in the U.S. in August through Amazon and Best Buy, and in the U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Italy starting September 9th through Motorola’s official website and major retailers including O2, Carphone Warehouse and Amazon. About the phone
The device features a 5.7-inch, 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes in two RAM and storage variants – 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage, 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. Under-the-hood, it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor paired with Adreno 509 GPU, 64GB/128GB internal memory (expandable up to 256GB via microSD card). The Moto G5S also has a 12MP rear camera sensor and a 5MP front facing camera. The Moto G5S comes equipped dual-SIM connectivity along with 4G LTE network support, a fingerprint scanner is present on its back panel while it sports a 3200mAh battery underneath its hood.
Moto G5S comes with a metal unibody design, which makes it look classy, although there is no mention of water-resistant or dustproof IP rating. It is 7.99mm thick and weighs 149 grams, while its dimensions are 155 x 72 x 7.99 mm (height x width x thickness). The display on Moto G5S looks really good with high screen-to-body ratio due to its 18:9 aspect ratio. Its primary 12MP rear camera sensor come coupled with a 5MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. For selfies, it features a 16MP front facing camera for high quality pictures/videos whenever required.
Moto G5S runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with a lot of additional Motorola software tweaks. It comes with 64GB/128GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. It is backed by a 3200mAh battery, although its rapid charging capabilities are yet to be confirmed. There’s also Fingerprint scanner present at its back side for extra security.
Moto G5S comes with a hybrid dual-SIM slot which supports 4G LTE network. The Moto G5S boasts of a 12MP rear camera sensor along with a 5MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. Its 16MP front facing camera for selfies takes high quality pictures/videos even in low light conditions. It’s powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, coupled with Adreno 509 GPU, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. It features Android 8.0 Oreo out of box with Motorola custom UI on top of it.
Battery Life
The Moto G power has a 3000mAh battery, which is not amazing, but it gets you through a day. I have used it for 2 days without charging. It has Turbo charging which enables you to charge 50% in 20 minutes. There is no support for wireless charging or fast-charging here.
There is no fast charging or wireless charging here, which is a bit disappointing considering that other Moto phones have had it. It does have Turbo Charge support though, which means you can get up to 50% in just 20 minutes. I was able to use it for 2 days without needing to charge. This can depend on your usage pattern though – someone who plays games all day will need to charge more frequently than someone who only uses email and messaging apps.
Storage & Memory: The Moto G power comes with a 16GB storage model, which is very low. The good news is that you can expand it up to 128GB via microSD card. It also has 4GB of RAM. I’ve never been able to use more than 2-3 apps at a time so 4GB was enough for me. If you play games or do multitasking extensively, you might find yourself running out of memory though. It can be problematic as there is no option to add more RAM here.
The Moto G power comes with 16GB of storage, which is rather low. There is no option to expand it. I wasn’t able to install many apps, though luckily I had a 64GB microSD card to use as internal storage instead. The 4GB of RAM is more than enough for me – I never once ran out of memory during my usage. If you’re someone who does intensive gaming or multitasking, you might find yourself running out of memory however. It can be problematic as there’s no option to add more RAM here either.
Network & Connectivity: The Moto G power has dual-SIM support. It does not have a LTE radio so it is limited to HSPA+. That’s good enough for most people in India, but it may disappoint those who travel a lot or live in cities where LTE is widespread. If you have an Indian number with BSNL, you can use their 4G service on SIM 1 while using your primary SIM (from any operator) on SIM 2 to take advantage of its fast network. Another caveat here is that it only supports one nano-SIM, which might be problematic if you’re used to having two numbers on your phone like I am.

The Moto G Power is one of three new power-focused Motorola phones announced today. The phone features a large 5,000mAh battery to help keep it going throughout your day. On top of that, its got a good looking design that can take a few hits without damaging itself too much. While some may prefer a little more power in their phone, it appears as though that was not necessary in most cases with what Motorola has done with their mid-range line up of phones. The Motorola Moto G6 line of phones are all shaping up to be excellent competitors in their own regard. We haven’t yet seen an incredible price drop like we did with last year’s model, but they appear to be promising enough to pick one up at their current prices of $249 for a regular edition and $199 for a Verizon exclusive special edition that will come pre-loaded with Android Oreo. Also, it is being reported that Amazon Alexa might come as a pre-installed feature on select models! And while they do not provide huge updates over previous years, its nice knowing we have better options from Motorola coming later on in 2018!
